NDERE CULTURAL CENTER

founded in the 1984 by Dr Rwangezi Stephen as a cultural organization for universal unity through music, dance and drama. This is one among over 1600 Uganda development theatre association groups entertaining and educating people through music , dance and drama.
What is the meaning of the word ‘NDERE’ ?
The name derived from a Lunganda word “ENDERE” meaning a flute, which was chosen in the African culture as a symbol of beauty as it produced such beautiful and irresistible music which can be manipulated to express a range of emotions; i.e. from sorrow to joy.
It also denoted universal unity, as a number of peoples of the world have a flute in their cultures. But for the African, a flute is like the blood that flows in our bodies no matter our external difference.
The Cultural Centre is an African cultural hub that expands over 9 acres of well maintained African flora and fauna known for indigenous architecture given a modern and fresh look.

Where is Ndere cultural center located?
The center is located a few kilometer from Uganda’s capital city in a suburb called Bukooto ,plot 4505 Kira Road,Ntinda – kisasi Road ,Kampala Uganda. Mostly visited in the evening hours because of their great cool time entertainments which serves as a hub for social interaction and community building, providing spaces where people can come together to share ideas, exchange information, and engage in cultural activities.
What is done at Ndere cultural center ?
The Ndere Cultural Centre in Kampala, Uganda hosts a number of activities that include traditional dance,Music,Food and story telling as well as hosting workshops and seminars to pass on traditional knowledge. And this include a 3 hour performance showcasing Uganda, Burundi and Rwandan culture.
Their great dance showcases “Olunyenge” Bakisimba, Amagunju, Tamena and many more, severally spiced up with poetry expressing Uganda’s history and culture ie, Every Wednesday, is real celebration African culture through dance, poetry and dig into the sumptuous cuisine. Some of the performances include Amagunju, Bakisimba, Tamena, Olunyege, Ekitagururo, Ekalu, Adungu, Larakaraka, Amatimbo a few mentioned.

1,Theatre La bonita
It located near Emirates on Kimathi Avenue. It is severally known as the stable home for the Ebonies, which is a state of art theatre. The theatres doubles a cinema, this means that it has got a lot of space to accommodate great numbers of viewers.
2,National theatre.
This is at the very end of Uganda Parliament on DE-Winton road .It is a cultural entertainment theatre that displays music shows plus lots of action packed local drama and comedy.. In their gardens, you also find lots of art and craft materials.
3,Pride Theatre
This is one it is kind,with almost two theatre in Kampala, the one located on Bombo road after Kobil petro station heading to Wandegeya and another on Namirembe road.
